Woman in Islam provides every serious student of Islam with an opportunity to develop an understanding of Islam from those who stand within the Islamic tradition and who have also close contact with the European tradition.

Whatever is the state of the vacuum or the substance that fills it, one of the pressing needs of today is to provide authentic information about the religion of Islam. A clear and precise statement about the position of woman in Islam was made by two Muslim women coming from the Western background, one English and the other German, in their presentation before the International Islamic Conference held in April, 1976, in London, under the auspices of the Islamic Council of Europe. These papers are presented in this book.
